Taiwan As U.S. Commonwealth Territory -A Proposal

I. Our Proposal: Taiwan as a U.S. Commonwealth territory for 50 years:

    It is our belief that the majority of Taiwanese would choose to place Taiwan under U.S. protection as a commonwealth territory for 50 years through national referendum. The petition is subject to the approval by the American people through U.S. Congress and the President of the U.S.A.

    Given the choice Taiwanese people would prefer to be associated with the U.S. rather than with China who aims hundreds of missiles at Taiwan. According to credible U.S. military specialists and scholars' estimate, China today has the ability to take over Taiwan militarily in a matter of days if the U.S.A. does not intervene. Taiwan's joining the United States as a commonwealth territory is in fact a necessity for its survival.

II. Our Proposal: Options for Taiwan after 50 years as a U.S. commonwealth:

      After 50 years as a commonwealth of the U.S., Taiwanese then will vote to decide their own future by plebiscite. They will vote on the following three options:

1. Become Republic of Taiwan,or
2. Become the 51th state of the U.S.A.,or
3. Become a part of China.

III. A win-win situation for Taiwan, the U.S., and China:

     Apart from the economic benefits, the U.S.will gain the right to use Taiwan's unique strategic location as U.S. naval, air and missile bases to stop China's aggression against its neighboring countries and against U.S. national interests in Asia.

     The democratic system in Taiwan that is well respected in the free world would be preserved. Taiwan would never fall into the slavery of Communist China's rule if Taiwanese were given a chance to vote to become a commonwealth of the U.S.

      If Taiwan becomes a U.S. commonwealth territory, China would be forced to reform, democratize, and respect human rights in order to compete for the Taiwanese votes after 50 years as U.S. territory.

      If all this were to materialize, the Foundation's proposal will be a win-win situation for Taiwan, the U.S. and China and it would contribute to the peace and stability in the world.
